The Rialto
Beyond the Rialto
Leave the Campo via the little bridge in the corner and follow the yellow sign for Ca’ Pesaro under the sottoportego. Turn left onto Calle dei Botteri and follow the street until it narrows, and turn right into the little square marked Carampane. Pass under the sottoportego, then take a right into Rio Terà delle Carampane. The bridge on your right is the Ponte delle Tette 4 [map] (Bridge of Breasts), named after the prostitutes (there were some 11,000 in 16th-century Venice) who frequented this quarter, stripping to the waist to entice customers.
Return to the Rio Terà delle Carampane, where you’ll find Antiche Carampane (for more information, click here).
